We initially decided to take a train there, but because it was so last minute and being the school holidays and all, the tickets were sold out. There's only a single train service from KL to Tanah Merah/Kota Baru, an overnight train that leaves KL Sentral at 7:30 pm.
We then looked at the possibility of taking a flight (MAS, Air Asia, Firefly), but it would have cost close to a thousand ringgit, again due to the last minute-ness of everything. We decided against taking a bus because we did not feel comfortable taking an overnight bus. So driving there was the only option.
Now, if you googled for driving directions from KL to Kuala Besut, you'll get very general directions. Thus, I decided to write this series of blogs to provide a little more detail. In short, we left KL for Kuala Terengganu, stayed a night, then continued our journey to Kuala Besut and on to Pulau Perhentian. We then returned directly from Kuala Besut to KL.
Enjoy.
